I thought Mariano wanted to have AQ in that spot so his decision (to fold) would be easier, not that he'd rather call with that hand.

38:00 Realistic thing to say that you bet B25 to fold all the Ahighs? Not sure if AQ and AJ are actually foldet out here by villain (I only play micros, maybe people are too sticky in my mind with Ahighs so I get this wrong, idk) I assume Villain has enough weaker Ax that do fold to the bet so that's why both pros go to B25?

Please correct me if I'm wrong: Why do you use wording such as "maximizing our chips", when GTO sees poker as a zero-sum game and only seeks to play "balanced" strategies, where its main goal is literally to not make or lose a single chip? In a raked game, the EV of playing GTO (assuming everyone else is playing *perfect* GTO) is negative - you should be walking out of that game. Now, of course there's money to be made by playing GTO, since opponents have lots of leaks in various spots, from preflop to postflop (overfolding, overcalling, underbluffing, overbluffing ...), so we print money as soon as they deviate from the GTO gameplan, by sticking "harder" to the GTO gameplan ourselves.

The real problem here consists of incentives, which you briefly touched on toward the end of the video. On the one hand you have the sharks - the high-stakes cash game crushers of the world. These types of players want to be in these games, though few of them have the name recognition necessary to justify giving them a seat. Doug Polk, Daniel Negreanu, Tom Dwan, etc. Then you have to recruit enough fish to incentivize the sharks to come. The problem is that due to the skill gap, any rational but lower skill player will not want to play in the game, which leaves the irrational players - the degens. Only somebody either obsessed with the fame of being on a stream or degen enough to want to gamble vs. players an order of magnitude more skilled will make the cut. This is the problem with a zero sum game like poker - only players who shouldn't be there will want to be there, and they're necessary for the game.

This is a great breakdown and amazing idea to have them verbalize what they are thinking while playing live. It’s great that people do this while playing online but when ur at table it changes an aspect. Like I think if he was just running this hand thru the solver then he woulda got to the low pocket pairs (he also woulda known he hand the whole time) and made the hand out to some hero call scenario. Whereas on the felt, even tho it’s not real life it still holds weight and shows u may forget things or leave things out. Whether intentional or not. Nobody’s perfect and when u hit the felt and real moneys on the line snd the chips are physically in front of u it’s a different game

I think a river raise here is a heavily underbluffed line, so calling is not that crazy to me because people will consider folding AK here. Makes me think of a hand Chidwick played in a recent Triton where he valueshoves AJ vs a xr, bet bet line on JJ5K2 or something and gets 55 to fold for just a few chips more. Because of the title I thought he was going to fold, that's the only massive blunder imo.

I'm playing poker since 2007, was a live cg, and online mtt and spin pro. Am on break atm. Will be back in 2025. Here are my thoughts for these specific fish, micro stakes pools with the K9o hand. - I'd chose a tighter range against these opponents. K9s+KTo+ to be dominating their preferred broadway limping range more. - Pre iso ok. Flop raise ok, although these players rarely fold once they donk, and one doesn't need to think about being capped when calling, as the fish doesn't notice that we are capped, as they are always afraid of being trapped. - Turn play is where it becomes interesting. I'd only 1.5x, 2x pot turn with a polarized balanced range that has huge draw potential or 2pairs+, because these people call too much. Normally the river is a 100% instant jam after that play. - But in this case the flush arrives, and he for sure has more flushes, and also K9o blocks his straight combos, so it is very likely that he holds a Q and will never ever fold it. - On top the board is paired, which makes it look less likely for you to have something. As he doesn't think in ranges, he will "not believe" that you have QQ or JJ for a full. Now obviously this dude is a suicide kamikaze station. Maybe it is also a house bot. You never know, I don't play online anymore. Even though I had 1 M winnings and good net profit, I don't trust these sites. GL

One more thing that I learned the hard way in live cg against braindead donkeys: - You don't need that much bluffs, vs people that do not fold. A balanced bluff range maximizes your EV vs people that can lay hands down, and have a minimum brain activity. - Don't give old man coffee action. - Don't make thin equity plays, because they help your opponent. For example jamming AK pre. Why? Because you give them the opportunity to win more equity share as if you wait for high EV spots postop where they donk their whole stack off on dumb plays- - To mix in "bluffs" and not be cathegorized as old man coffe, I just use suited connectors like 87s, 98s etc. nn one gappers etc. One can even ditch A5s as a bluff 4 bet pre depending on which continent you are playing. In Europe, you'll have to have A5s in there, as the games are way more advanced as in the US. In the US or Colombia or Mexico for example the calling range of a RFI for these people is tighter than my 4 betting range in Euro land. :D
